How it works

Choose a picture, find the right frame, and take a small piece with you.

Cut paper, photo prints and analog tools laid out on a work table

Find your frame

A few simple controls, a picture of your own, and room to experiment.

  1. Choose a picture

Open a collection and pick an artwork, or stay in the studio and upload a JPEG, PNG, WebP, or GIF from this device.

  2. Set the frame

Use Square, 4:3, 16:9, or Free. Drag to pan. Use the zoom slider, or focus the canvas and use arrow keys, plus, and minus.

  3. Inspect and download

The preview shows the crop. Download writes a PNG in this browser. Reloading the page returns to the seeded sample.

  4. Recover from a failed upload

If the type, size, or decode check fails, the cropper keeps the current picture and shows the limit. Reset to sample returns to Pier at low tide, or whichever keep the URL named.

Process

From a keep to a PNG

A closer look at each step, from choosing your picture to saving the finished crop.

Choose a picture

Open Collections and pick Weekend Postcards when you want the default journey. On the detail page, Choose a crop lists the two artworks and the four formats the cropper actually supports. You can also skip the pack and upload a file in the studio.

  • Built-in keep

Allowlisted asset IDs land on /studio with the matching picture.

  • Your file

Upload stays in this tab. JPEG, PNG, WebP, or GIF, up to 8 MB.

Set the frame

The studio is the live ImageCropper. Aspect buttons are Square, 4:3, 16:9, and Free. The canvas is a work surface: no paper texture over the pixels, no fake window chrome, no sound.

  • Pan

Drag the picture, or focus the canvas and use arrow keys.

  • Zoom

Use the labelled zoom slider, or plus and minus on the focused canvas.

  • Preview

The small preview is the same crop that Download will write.

Inspect and download

Download writes a PNG of the current crop in this browser. Decorative page texture is not drawn onto the file. Reload returns to the seeded keep. Reset to sample does the same without leaving the page.

A few practical details

Everything you need to know before making your first keep.

Files

JPEG, PNG, WebP, or GIF, up to 8 MB. Other types and larger files show an error and keep the current picture. Corrupt files restore the last usable source when one exists.

Controls

Focus the crop canvas. Arrow keys pan. Plus and minus change zoom. The zoom slider remains labelled and usable.

Plans

No. Cabinet is an illustrative concept. No payment is collected, and there is no account to create.
